Cannot get latest version of drivers working with Ubuntu 16.04

Hello,

I have been trying to get the new and previous versions of the Ubuntu drivers to work on my hardware. I know the display works, works fine with my mac. But when connected to the Ubuntu computer, the display flashes and sometimes displays a mirror of the main display and sometimes not. When I check the system log file, there is definitly a crash going on in the displaylink drivers, I just don't know if it is something I can fix with a setting. A zip file with the error logs captured via the display link tool is attached.

Thanks for any help.;

Craig

I have tried using three different USB cords. The older 1.1.68 driver release, works on this display except that the USB display will not come back on after suspend and unplugging the USB display causes the system to crash. So I do not believe it is an issue with cord quality.

Any ideas? I was hoping to use a USB displaylink monitor for a CES demo this week, but it doesn't look that that will happen.....

Hi,

Yes - Thanks for the report. We've found a problem in code that we added to the latest Linux driver in order to boost performance - it has problems when the resolution of the screen is 1366x768.

A workaround is to use an older version (1.1.x), which will have lower performance - or change the resolution to another (which may be hard if the problematic mode is preferred - which is the case for some USB powered screens like @cpeddie88 uses).

We'll include the fix for this in next Linux driver refresh - sadly, I do not have a date.

Regards,
Michal

Thank you so much for this information Michal. It is good to have some sort of an explanation.

It might be helpful to some other users if this issue was included on the "known issues" page. http://support.displaylink.com/knowl...rticles/641668

Is there any sort of rough estimate on the next release? Are we looking at weeks, months, 6+ months?

Thanks again for all the work you guys do on the Ubuntu driver, we really appreciate it!

Hi, at the moment I estimate we'll be able to refresh the Linux driver in a few weeks, watch this space...

Cheers,
Michal

Wonderful! We are looking forward to it. :-)

Here is what ended up working for me:

1. blacklist udl and udlfb
2. install the 1.3 Ubuntu driver (the .run file)
3. change the udev rule that is generated in the /etc/udev.d for DisplayLink that it does not filter DL-1xx devices by removing the following entries from the udev filter:

ATTR{bInterfaceClass}=="ff", ATTR{bInterfaceProtocol}=="03",

4. restart the machine.

The caveats are that I usually have to open System Settings > Display and reapply the display layout settings each time I plug the external monitor in so that the display will render properly across both screens. Sometimes I have to do it 2-3 times to get windows to maximize properly. And, I cannot have the monitor plugged in when restarting the computer.

Running Kubuntu 16.04 with Wavlink WL-UG39DH1 Rev. B1 and latest driver on Acer Aspire v3 772g (BIOS v1.15) with Nvidia GeForce GTX 760M. Nvidia-drivers are deinstalled and purched. Attaching the adapter works fine, as long as I don't attach any display to the adapter ;) ...as soon as a display is attached the system freezes.
Second screen is attached to internal DVI-port. Third screen should be attached to the Wavlink-adapter.
Following the instructions of @rup didn't work for me, either with attached nor with disconnected second screen of internal DVI-port.

Logfile is attached...

TIA
Stevie
