Hi all,
I am having some difficulty trying to get a kingston dipslay link multi screen adapter to work with my dell inspiron 5584 laptop running ubuntu 18.04 with a 5.3 kernel.
The adapter i am using is the one found here:
https://www.kensington.com/en-gb/p/products/connectivity/video-adapters/universal-multi-display-adapter/
Although Ubuntu is not listed under the compatibility - is there any way to install a driver to make it work?
I have tried searching online for days and have not found anything of use - It's really a shame because I have one hdmi port only on my laptop, and would like to use a usb adapter that i have above to dual screen two monitors.
Any help is appreciated!

Did you try the official driver? https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/ubuntu

Yep - have tried following the instructions here - but the installation does nothing after rebooting!
I don't understand why it won't identify my displaylink adapter!

Hello,
@badhaircut, could you please check if the adapter is recognized on the USB bus?
You can check following link for steps: https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/683672-my-displaylink-device-does-not-work-on-ubuntu

Thanks for this - I have tried it and received the following output:
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 17e9:430f DisplayLink
I do not understand as to why it does not recognise it on linux (ubuntu) - it works perfectly fine on windows machines so I know the display link adapter does work correctly.
Can you help me try and find a solution? I really do need to dual screen the monitor

Hi Katarzyna,
Please find my log files attached.
My problem is that when i plug in the Kensington Display Link adapter it just does not recognise a monitor on ubuntu - windows works fine (without driver installation).
If you could give me any advice on how to make it work I would really appreciate it!
thank you!
