Display port version

Greetings,

The DisplayLink I am using is Toshiba branded, and unfortunately, they were useless
when trying to get any information from them in regards to the unit. :(

Can someone please tell me :
1) What Displayport version is on the DisplayLink 4K,

or

2) Tell me how I can find that information?

I am wanting to order a second monitor for my configuration, but my understanding
is only DisplayPort v1.2 will support a daisy chain configuration vs. using the displayport for one monitor, and using DVI for the other monitor.

Hello,
None sold today will support Multi-Stream Transport (MST). That's the DisplayPort feature you need to daisy chain monitors. This is a hardware limitation so it will never be retro-fitted by software.
The way round this is to add another USB->DisplayPort adapter to get another display available as you can daisy chain on the USB.

Here is my current configuation :
Toshiba Tecra Z40t-C --> DisplayLink 4K --> View Sonic VG 2439m

So, if I understand correctly,

I cannot run two displayport capable monitors via a single displayport cable (daisy-chained/MST) via the DisplayLink 4K? If so, how exactly does a DisplayLink 4K
benefit someone?

If I cannot daisy-chain the monitors via displayport, can I use multiple video ports
off the back of the DisplayLink 4K and still have extended desktop capability?

The benefit of a single head 4K adapter is to run a 4K monitor or television. Because of falling price, their are increasingly popular.

The alternative is to use two standard USB->DP adapters (http://www.displaylink.com/products/find?cat=3&res=1920x1080) as the monitor you have is Full HD and therefore doesn't require a 4K adapter.
Alternatively, any of these dual head docking stations (http://www.displaylink.com/products/find?cat=1&res=1920x1080&num=2) using DisplayLink technology will be able to drive two of these monitors. Same number of cables, just connected to the box. The View Sonic VG 2439m has DisplayPort, HDMI and DVI inputs so even docking stations not being dual DP can be used.

MST has no impact on being able to do extended desktop or not.
I don't know what model of dock you have. We don't design or manufacture any end product, therefore contacting the manufacturer for confirmation would be better, but if I have the details I can look for you too.

Thanks for this information. And I apologize for all the questions, But I purchased the DisplayLink 4K with the impression I could link multiple monitors together via the DisplayPort (which until just recently I didn't even know what the DP version was) You guys should consider making that information readily available in the product description and packaging.... (just a thought).. :-)

I am currently NOT using a dock. Only the DisplayLink 4K connected via the USB
connection, and the ViewSonic plugged into the DisplayLink
(branded as a Toshiba DynaDock 4K) via DVI.

Can I use the DVI and the HDMI ports on the DisplayLink at the same time?
If this is not possible, then I will return the DisplayLink and work on a better solution.

However DisplayLink does not design, manufacture or sell any end product.
We are a semiconductor company. The people making the product is the name on the box... Not us. That's why I'd recommend you flag this to them as well so they can improve their documentation. The version of DP we support is on the doc of the chip... But reading the doc of a chip in the full system doesn't give you what the manufacturer has decided to enable based on all the components they added: not supposed to be your job to figure out!!
What's the reference of to dynadock are you using so I can check their doc(k)?

I am running into a similar issue with a docking station that uses the DisplayLink chipset and advertises DP1.2 support (which includes MST in it's standard). Can you confirm that your DL-4*** series chipsets support MST since they are advertising DisplayPort 1.2?

Can you please give some details on the product?
We don't manufacture any end products and the DisplayLink DL-4000 series does not output DisplayPort, regardless of its version. So I would need to know what the design is and know where it says it supports MST to form an informed answer.

Implementing MST is about ***splitting*** the number of pixels across displays. That doesn't extend the processing power of any chip.
The DisplayLink DL-4000 chip supports up to 1080p. I would never implement MST on a chip which is limited to Full HD. I mean what's left for each display?!
