Hi,
I am facing somewhat an issue depicted here for windows in my DELL XPS-13 running Ubnutu 14.04 with Display link driver:

Issue:
1. I connect 2 external monitors to the docking station (along with network cable, USB mouse, USB keyboard also connected to the dock, D3100).
2. Plug the D3100 USB cable to the DELL XPS-13
3. All displays (including DELL XPS-13) light up (if not, i have to go and turn on each external monitory, a one time affair). Arrange the monitors/screen placement according to my monitors and laptop positioning.
4. As long as the laptop lid is open & it's acting as (a third) display, all good. The navigation is fluid smooth across all the 3 displays.
5. The moment I close the laptop lid, I am left with 2 external monitor displays as expected, but the mouse movement in this scenario seems to be slow, flickery. It's not fluid smooth anymore.
The monitors I'm using are:
1. HP Z Display Z23i ‑ 23" IPS LED Monitor None ‑ FullHD ‑ Black connected to D3100 dock via DVI-D (with HDCP support) with the HDMI adapter supplied with the dock.
2. HP Compaq LA2205wg 22 inch, connected to D3100 dock via DisplayPort (with HDCP support)
