I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 15.04 and a Plugable USB 3.0 4K device. I could manually run the .run file and then see the display. I posted a note over on the Plugable support forum about how to have the system load the driver every time upon boot-up. They pointed me to this post: http://displaylink.org/forum/showthread.php?t=63994

Now, when I did that and reboot, the driver seems to be loaded. If I do a:

$ sudo systemctl status displaylink.service

it shows as running. However, I no longer see the monitor in my "Settings" where I would normally see the monitor layout. I've rebooted a couple of times, and also uninstalled, and reinstalled the driver. Now though, I can't just run the .run file anymore, I get an error - so I can't even use the workaround I was using before. So, I guess I need to actually get to the underlying problem if I can find it.

Any ideas on how else to verify the driver is loaded, and also why if it is, I don't see this 4K monitor in the Ubuntu "settings" window. Thanks!
