View Full Version : Acer 7750G, AMD Radeon HD 6650M with 6 external monitors

This setup has worked since January 2012.

External monitors recently started going into sleep mode and not coming back without reboot.

Tried updating AMD drivers and windows does not detect adapters. Updated Display link drivers same.

Reinstall older AMD drivers no change. Uninstall Displaylink drivers and it automatically finds later driver when connected to internet.

Uninstall Displaylink again disconnected from internet. Disable searching Windows Update for device drivers. Install Display link 5.5M2 from CD that came with USB-DVI adapters.

Everything works again but still goes into sleep mode and does not coming back without reboot.

Power setting has USB selective suspend setting disabled and on every USB device that has a power management tab we have unchecked the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

Attached the output from your Displaylink Support Tool. It failed the System Compatibility Check with a message to update the Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller driver but the last time we tried this (6 months ago) we needed to roll this back to make the external monitors work again.

Looking for advice on what version of the Displaylink drivers will work with our USB to DVI-17 USB\VID_17E9&PID_0360&REV_0111 and the prerequisites to making this work ie AMD Radeon drivers and Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller driver.

Hi,

Can you start by following these steps:
1. Disconnect any DisplayLink devices
2. Uninstall DisplayLink software
3. Download and run the Cleaner tool from here:

4. Install latest DisplayLink software v7.9 from here:
http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/downloads.php
5. Connect your DisplayLink devices

Hi James,

Followed your instructions. After the uninstall and clean, I updated AMD Radeon to latest 15.7, reboot, updated Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 to latest NEC drivers, ran Display Link Support Tool and it now passed System Compatibility Check. Installed Display Link 7.9M0 and all screens work.

The Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 has an application that allows us to turn off the power management so I checked that option.

Pleased to be on the latest drivers for AMD Radeon, Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 and Display Link as it means we are likely to be able to move to Windows 10 at some stage.

Hi James,

Still crashing. Skype crashed 02AUG15 and screens went with it. Reboot resolved issue.

and

04AUG15 at 14:30 AEST DI01-PC_20150804_144441.zip is just after crash and before reboot. Just heard a click and the apps on the external monitors dropped onto the notebook monitor. From logs the Adobe Flashplayer update ran at this time for 1min 49secs without any error. Device manager still shows the USB-DVI devices but windows screen resolution shows just the notebook screen.

DI01-PC_20150804_150135.zip is after reboot, all screens working again.

Hopefully this info will provide some pointers as to how we can prevent this from happening.

Hi James,

Forgot to note that we use two external mains powered USB hubs.

Using the laptop's usb3 port to hub 1 which feeds 3 x DVI adapters + hub 2. Hub 2 in turn feeds the other 3 x DVI adapters. So all 6 DVI adapters and the two hubs are plugged into usb3 ports.

External mains powered hubs ensure we have enough amps to power the DVI adapters.

Is there anything else we can do to help identify the cause of the intermittent shutdown of the adapters?
