Is it true that there is no option for charging the ultrabook while it is docked?

Please tell me there is a way to charge my ultrabook other than running the power supply that came with the ultrabook. I truly wanted a drop and work solution and now I have to crawl under my desk each time to plug it in (I travel often).

Hoping for a solution so I can keep my ultrabook power supply packed in my to-go bag all the time I am not docked.
:confused::confused::confused:

Hi,

Which ultrabook do you have?

Thanks,
James

Did anyone solve this or have a similar issue? I have a Samsung Series 9 and my ultrabook won't charge either. I called Belkin support and they just want to give a reference number so I can return, but they couldn't tell me if this was supported or not.

Thanks,
John

I have the Dell D3100 Docking station and Dell Inspiron 7348. When I bought, sales told me it would power the laptop through the USB 3.0 I/O cable. Once received I can't get it to power the laptop. Called Dell support and they said it should also work - they sent me a replacement docking station - still no luck.

I finally heard back from another tech at Dell. It does not power the laptop...
"Please be informed that Dell D3000 (3100) series USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Dual Video Docking Station does not supply power to the docked system. The docked computer must use its own AC power to charge the battery."

Hi,

None of the current docks will charge the notebook through USB.

However some docks can power the notebook through dedicated AC cables:

Targus ACP77 dock http://targus.com/us/universal-usb-30-dv2k-docking-station-with-power
