I have the following environment:
Acer Aspire 5251
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 (newest driver)
Windows 8, fully updated
Laptop monitor 1
HDMI monitor 2
USB 2.0 Plugable DisplayLink monitor 3
Chrome 25.0.1364.97 m
When upgrading to driver 7.1 M1, Chrome will no longer connect to web sites. It simply sits there with the cycling arrow.
I uninstalled and re-installed all relevant drivers, including the latest updates. As long as 7.1 M1 was installed, the problem persisted - with one notable exception: when running Win8 Safe Mode w/Networking. In Safe Mode, Chrome functioned fine - probably because the video drivers weren't loaded.
When I reverted to driver 7.0 M3, the problem went away.
Now, what a graphics USB driver has to do with Chrome functioning, I'm sure I couldn't say.
By the way, I have a desktop setup at work with the same Plugable device running just fine on Win8 with driver 7.1 M1, so I suspect it is unique to my particular setup. (In fact, 7.1 M1 fixed the work machine's trouble with monitors not waking from sleep.)
