After installing the 1.8 drivers in 10.7.4 my screen saver turns on at random times, right in the middle of using an application or at boot. Because I password protect my screen saver it causes me to have to login continuously.

This seem an known issue with MBP with nVidia 330 or nVidia 650 (MBP 6,1, 6,2 or 9,2). What machine are you using?
Could you please try to remove the screen-saver settings file? The file should be located ~/Library/Preferences/ByHosts/ folder and named something like com.apple.screensaver.xxxx.plist. Set your screen saver preferences once again and see if the issue disappear.

I am also having the same issue.

I'm currently on an nVidia 650M.

Additionally the removal of the screensaver file and resetting of the screen saver through the System Preferences did not fix the issue for me.

I'm experiencing the same problem.

I'm using a MBP (9,1) 2.6 GHz core i7, mid-2012 with NVIDIA GeForce GT 650 1024 MB.

I had the problem with the DisplayLink 1.7 driver and it continues with the DisplayLink 1.8 driver.

Also, sometimes the computer loses recognition of the external display using the DisplayLink adapter and I have to unplug and replug the adapter into the USB port to have it recognized again.

I too have the 650 with 1Gig. This is the Mid 2012 model.

Removing the file in byHosts does not solve the issue.
