Hi, I am using a late 2009 MBP 17" that has the discrete NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT video card. The Mac is being used in "clamshell" mode so the card is only powering my external DVI Samsung monitor. I have also connected a Diamond BVU-160/DisplayLink (discontinued model) USB monitor card connected to a VGA monitor.

My problem is that this setup seem to see the BVU connected monitor as my main monitor. As as result I cannot drag the tool bar off it onto the larger dvi monitor. I can drag photos etc but not the bar. When I open display preferences they screen opens on both monitors but the Display/Arrangement/Color window only appears on the VGA monitor and the DVI connected monitor only offers the Display/Çolor choice.

Anybody know if this is just how it works? Seems strange that the Diamond/display link device takes control as it would seem to be secondary.

Anybody know how to resolve this problem and get the tool bar back onto the main monitor? Thanks

The Arrangement panel only appears on the currently main monitor. To do this:
- Open the Arrangement panel on your main monitor
- Notice that the panel contain a miniature of your desktop with the main monitor characterised by a little menu bar on the top
- Drag that little menu bar on the monitor you want to use as main
- Close System Preferences

That should do it.
