Default Kubuntu 14.04 and Asus VX279

I have a pretty vanilla Kubuntu install

Code:
$ inxi -b

and an ASUS VX279 monitor HDMI MHL. I have seen this product, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o00_s00,
which is based on a "DisplayLink DL-3900 chipset", see later in the page. I learned from this Web page
of the DisplayLink site, http://support.displaylink.com/knowl...rticles/683482,
that all products based on chipsets DL-5xxx, DL-41xx, and DL-3xxx, are now supported by the newest Linux kernel
module release, version 1.0.335, which I promptly downloaded and installed. I was also happy to see that the pc on which
I installed the driver, a simple Kubuntu 14.04 LTS, is eaxactly the one for the driver evdi was claimed to have been released.

However, despite DisplayLink's claims to the contrary, the external monitor never works when attached to the DisplayLink. The open log files do not display
any significant error messages. For this reason I have attached the zip obtained by running your
DLSupportTool, in the hope that the encrypted ones will reveal something significant.

Anything obvious?
