Vista x64, HP6830s, ATI Mob. Radeon HD3430 freezes

Hello together,

first of all I like to thank you for letting me test the currently not finalized drivers.

I am using a HP Laptop (6830s w/ ATI Mobility Radeon HD3430), attached via
a HIS Multi View II (AN2440D3) to the DVI-Port of a HP LP2065 20" LCD
running at 1600x1200. I'm using Vista x64 with all latest Patches and Service
Packs as my OS.

By using the current 5.5 Beta Build 27257 I try to stop the following
behaviour:

Sometimes the output suddenly freeezes and moving the mouse is no longer
possible.

When I press WIN+L to lock the computer, the log in screen appears. At this
stage logging back in is not a good idea, as it does take me to a black
screen with no futher working possible. Having done that, I am able to back
out with pressing WIN+L a second time, which then takes me to the log in
screen again.

What works almost every time is to click on "switch user", which causes the
external monitor to flicker three or four times (EDIT: It flickers only two times).
After a few seconds I am able to choose the user I want to switch to (the one
I am currently working with is fine). I type in in the password, the screen again
flickers three or four times (EDIT: again the monitor goes blank for a short time
only two times). That takes about ten seconds, and after that the desktop
comes up and I am able to work again.

I guess that flickering is caused by the driver resetting the hardware, which
is indeed working, when I go through the above procedure.....

What more can I write?

I only use the "Sleep"-Mode to shutdown the laptop. I get at least one
frozen desktop in each session (wake up PC-> work -> sleep PC). Only a few
times I have to work around that a second time. Session length is between
2h and 10h, with not putting the computer to sleep between.

I obtained the USB-DVI adapter some (six or so) weeks ago and the first
driver version was a 5.3 (can't remember the exact build number of them,
but I downloaded at least the last current version before the 5.4 beta test
ended. The last two driver versions I was using were the official 5.4 Build
26772 and the current 5.5 Beta 27257. All tested versions showed the same
behaviour.

As required I attached the Data collected by the USB Display Adapter Debug program.

thx -- Erwin_S

EDIT: corrected the number of times the monitor flickers when using the workaround

Please check that you have the latest graphics driver installed for your
primary graphics card, as this could cause this issue.

Thanks

Hello Pawel,

thank you for pointing me to that. The most recent version for Mobility Radeon
chips still seems to be 10.8, which is what I currently have installed. I will
update to the newer version as soon as it is available.

Hi Guys,

a little update from me. After updating to the now current Radeon Mobility 10.10 the above described freezes are still there.
