Repeated connect/disconnect, Ubuntu 16.10, DisplayLink 1.3.52

2 Attachment(s)
Razer Blade 2016 laptop, StarTech USB2DOCKH2DP, dual Dell U2711 connected via DisplayPort

System is dual-boot; hardware works correctly on Windows 10

On Ubuntu 16.10, DisplayLink 1.3.52 is stuck in a connect/disconnect loop:
Mar 11 11:39:50 Dagon kernel: [ 2564.599322] usb 2-5.2: new SuperSpeed USB device number 65 using xhci_hcd
Mar 11 11:39:50 Dagon kernel: [ 2564.620179] usb 2-5.2: New USB device found, idVendor=17e9, idProduct=4307
Mar 11 11:39:50 Dagon kernel: [ 2564.620181] usb 2-5.2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
Mar 11 11:39:50 Dagon kernel: [ 2564.620182] usb 2-5.2: Product: StarTech USB3DOCKH2DP
Mar 11 11:39:50 Dagon kernel: [ 2564.620183] usb 2-5.2: Manufacturer: DisplayLink
Mar 11 11:39:50 Dagon kernel: [ 2564.620183] usb 2-5.2: SerialNumber: 000100115076856

...

Mar 11 11:39:58 Dagon kernel: [ 2572.360423] cdc_ncm 2-5.2:1.5: bind() failure
Mar 11 11:39:58 Dagon kernel: [ 2572.360663] usb 2-5.2: USB disconnect, device number 65
Mar 11 11:39:58 Dagon kernel: [ 2572.364644] usb 2-5.1: usbfs: process 1708 (DeviceManager_0) did not claim interface 1 before use

AND start another atttempt:

Mar 11 11:39:58 Dagon kernel: [ 2572.547270] usb 2-5.2: new SuperSpeed USB device number 67 using xhci_hcd

A USB keyboard and mouse connected to dock continue to work, presumably not routed through DL chip.

Full log of one pass and DL configuration attached. A previous revision version of the Ubuntu DLM worked correctly (1.2.65? Still trying to verify via rollback, might have been 16.04->16.10 upgrade that broke this.)

Confirmed that 1.2.65 also does not work with 16.10, though the symptoms are slightly less obvious: Wired network appears to disconnect once, then be connected, but in fact is not transmitting packets; the displays take turns being detected and correctly display, but then drop out.

This is likely a kernel or driver issue associated with 16.10. Will re-evaluate once 17.04 is released this month.
